Bruce Lee v. P90X (feat. P.U.D.G.E.)

Here’s some good listening to accompany the post. A dab of new music from avant-beatsmith, VJC brother and Milky Way producer/bass player P.U.D.G.E. Wonky funk from his project “One Hand Band”, available on Bandcamp.

I’m always skeptical when there’s a new health craze afoot, and P90X strikes me as no different.
It seems like a quick way to fill out a tight shirt, but thataboutit. Or if you’re a lady, it might get the booty buoyant enough for discussion among appreciative men. Some folks are good with the quick “I look strong” touch-up. But as a fan of the human body since I was a youngin, I just think true sculpting is a lifestyle that takes many moons to perfect. It begins internally with flexibility, the joints and ligaments, circulation and attention to the innards….the organs. Not just “muscle confusion”. I think a routine with such quick results doesn’t foster lifetime discipline. But that’s just me.

I haven’t used the P90X technique yet, so I can’t justify being a critic. Plus I aint in tip-top shape either….I’ve been in the bar more than the gym lately. But I’m allowed some healthy skepticism. And what I DO know is that Bruce Lee was the pinnacle of human fitness, and it took him years to figure out what worked for his goals….not just three months. Every body is different.  Paying mind to the science of the body is invaluable to my life as an indie artist and my craft as an MC. In the spirit of dedication, commitment, fitness and The Life Independent™, here are three MUST-READ books I highly recommend as alternatives to the three DVDs offered by P90X. These books have changed my life in different ways and given a truly holistic perspective on strength, power, health and beauty.

    I respect your opinion and appreciate your willingness to learn a regimen out of a book. Bruce lee is the man but who really wants to take time to read a book when they can push play and follow Tony Horton for an hour. The results after 90 days are amazing and I too got great results. I am a coach with beachbody and promote there products because they work for the people that don’t know how to get fit. These people are about 95% of the population. I think you would make more money getting in shape with beach body and promoting there products rather than earning a small commission on Bruce Lee books. Just being honest! Im curious to see your results. Check mine out and maybe you can see what I mean. Good blog otherwise.

    I agree with Giani. Reading is for fags. If you were a real man, you would drive down to Tijuana to buy some Bull Shark testosterone and shoot it into your dick with a turkey baster.

    Thanks for the comment Giani. You’re my first comment since I officially relaunched, so thanks for reading! I’m not trying to diss P90X so much as I am expressing skepticism about the “get fit quick” approach. The problem I have with P90X is that I’ve known a couple of people to use it, then a couple years down the line, they’re in worse shape than they ever were. If you don’t have the discipline to read a book, you don’t have the discipline to stay in shape for too long. But I’ll throw you a bone and say there are DVDs out there that take a more thorough approach to real strength out there for the 95% of people who don’t have time to read books. It’s not about the DVD aspect to me…its about the philosophy and approach of “quick solutions”. And by the by, if I were making commission from Bruce Lee books, I’d probably be making DVDs about them rather than blogging about it.

    Josh, obviously you have know idea what you’re talking about. Real men know the real bull shark ball juice is from Belize, not TJ.

    I mispelled my name in the first post. Beachbody is a company that has over ten in home workout programs so P90x is not a get in shape quick solution. The prosucts are all certain amount of days, like P90x is 90days, Insanity is 60 days, RevAbs is 90 days etc. The people you may know that are in worse shape now probably gave up on themselves during the program or the ywent back to there usual self. LAZY! So many people told me that after the 90 days are you going to gain your weight back? I said hell no, wrok this hard and then give it back. I started another program and when Im done with that one then I will start another program. It’s a commitment to yourself. Going to the gym for me and many others is annoying, not because the gym sucks but I have no clue what to do, for how long and on what day. It’s easier to push play and follow Tony Horton or Shaun T and workout in the comfort of my own home. A one hour video or a drive back and forth to the gym and a wasted hour when I get there equals me never getting in shape. Just look into it and honestly give it 30 days and I promise you will be in the best shape of your life. You know where to buy it. The question is are you up for my challenge. My before and after pics are not photo shopped, there the real deal. For any others out there that want a challenge try it.

    Good post, I am just finishing up week2 of P90X and have already begun to see some results. I have always been intrigued by Bruce Lee, so I have picked up that book, thank you for recommending it!

    Looks like Gianni is missing your point and is using The Good look as a platform to ’sell’ his programs.

    I appreciate your take on it from a person that actually has a true sense of self and shares information for the betterment of his readers, not for the possibility of making a commission. Sum has read the books.

    Everyone has their own path. There’s nothing really to argue about. The important things to seek and find the best way to personal refinement and the promote a better quality of life for everyone.
